Dear Friends,

Thank you for visiting the Brewer’s Plate website. We are very excited about the 5th Annual Brewer’s Plate, which will be on Sunday, March 8th, 2009 from 4:00 to 7 :00 PM at Penn Museum. As one of the marquee events of Philly Beer Week 2009, this year’s event promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever. Last year, twenty-one of the region’s top craft breweries paired with twenty-one of the Philadelphia area’s most distinguished and reputable restaurants to create a gourmet experience no food or beer lover should miss! We hope you will attend. All proceeds support the 501c3 nonprofit White Dog Community Enterprises and its main program, Fair Food.

Conceived of four years ago by Bill Covaleski of Victory Brewing as a fundraiser for Fair Food, the Brewer’s Plate has become Philadelphia’s premier local restaurant and craft beer showcase. One of its primary goals is to highlight the city’s unique flavor and culinary culture. Therefore, all Brewer’s Plate restaurant and brewery participants are independently owned and located within 150 miles of the city. That means that everything you eat and drink that night will have been prepared right in your backyard! Because the restaurants and breweries are also of the highest caliber, you will truly be able to experience the best of the region all in one place.

Another goal of the Brewer’s Plate is to highlight the growing awareness that a premium quality beer is as good, if not better, than wine for accompanying some gourmet cuisine. Each chef chooses a handcrafted lager, porter, pale ale, or stout submitted by a participating brewery and then creates an original dish specifically to complement it. In past years, some chefs have incorporated the beer directly into their recipes! The chefs then serve their creations alongside master brewers, who pour samples of the corresponding beer for guests. The result is a collection of exquisite collaborative food/beer pairings that really shows how fine craft beer and gourmet food can bring out the best in each other. Please click here for more information on the art of food and beer pairing.

In addition to enjoying a fun-filled evening, when you purchase tickets and attend the Brewer’s Plate, you are also supporting a great cause. Fair Food, White Dog Community Enterprises’ main program, works to support a sustainable local food system by connecting regional family farmers with buyers in the Philadelphia marketplace, and by promoting locally grown food to citizens in the Philadelphia region. WDCE also coordinates the Philadelphia Buy Fresh Buy Local Campaign to promote locally grown food from small-scale farms.

Thanks again for your interest in the Brewer’s Plate. For those of you who have attended in previous years, we thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you again. For newcomers, welcome to the party!

Sincerely,

Fair Food Staff
